Andy Gacy, the next Amazon CEO, is said to be committed to the idea of the company continuing to make games.
Although not all of Amazon's games have so far been conclusively commercially successful,
In his email, obtained by Bloomberg, he wrote:
"Some companies take off in the first year, others take many years."
"Although we haven't been consistently successful yet in Amazon Game Studio, I think we will if we stop working there."
Gacy is said to have sent the email just a day before Amazon announced that he will take over as CEO, once Jeff Bezos leaves later this year.
The timing of the letter is important for two other reasons. At the end of January, Bloomberg published a report detailing some of Amazon's game studio failures, and stinging at the inexperience of its boss, Mike Frasini, who had never worked on a game before he took office.
The email news also comes the same week that Google announced it was closing its in-house Stadia game studios. Considering the billions Amazon has spent creating its own games with little or nothing to show for it,
It would be hard to blame Gacy for wanting to cancel this activity. How he feels about the gaming fiasco at Amazon once he takes over as CEO will likely depend a lot on how the upcoming MMO performs.
